I recently had the opportunity to be a part of a maternity/gender reveal photoshoot, and I had to share a little behind-the-scenes and some quick tips for anyone planning their own shoot!

First off—this mama-to-be was glowing. The excitement, the bump, the surprise reveal… it was such a beautiful mix of emotions and joy, and it reminded me why I love capturing these moments so much. Whether it’s your first baby or your third, these memories are so worth documenting.

Here are a few tips if you’re planning a shoot like this:

1. Go with the flow.

Seriously. Babies don’t follow schedules and neither does the wind, lighting, or the occasional toddler sibling running through the frame. The best photos usually come from the unplanned moments, so embrace the chaos and let the magic happen.

2. Coordinate outfits, but don’t stress.

Neutrals, soft pastels, or even a fun pop of blue or pink work great. Just make sure you feel comfortable—if you’re tugging at a dress the whole time, it’ll show. Comfort + confidence = golden.

3. Keep the reveal simple.

Smoke bombs, balloons, confetti, cake—there are so many options! Just make sure it’s something that feels true to you.

3. Most Importantly-have fun with it!

This shoot is about celebrating your journey and this new little life. Laugh, get silly, and enjoy the moment. The joy shines through every time.

Whether you’re doing this shoot for yourself or with a photographer, just remember: you’re capturing a part of your story that’ll only get better with time
